 Needs Assessment / Purpose

There have been rapid developments of new concepts in pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical aspects and treatment of hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and associated CVD and TOD. Publication of many new clinical trials have also occurred. This course’s content is based on the new clinical and research aspects of clinical patient care and practice skills related to the earlier detection and improved treatment of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and renal disease. The course is designed to improve physicians’ knowledge and their clinical skills.

Target Audience

This course is designed for primary care physicians, including internists, family physicians, general practitioners and general surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, vascular specialists, hypertension specialists, nurses, pharmacists, residents and other healthcare professionals.

Format

Speakers will use a combination of lectures and interactive educational techniques. Panel Discussions and Meet the Professors Workshops will examine in detail the practice implications of the material presented. Clinical cases will be presented. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions related to practice issues. A syllabus will be provided at registration.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Review pathophysiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of vascular aging and vascular disease.
  • Discuss new drug therapy for hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
  • Discuss prevention and treatment of renal disease and cerebrovascular disease.
  • Discuss combination therapies for dyslipidemia and hypertension.  

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control (COSEHC) with the Hypertension Institute. The Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CME Designation

The Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14 hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours he/she actually spent in the educational activity. The activity has also been submitted to the American Academy of Family Physicians for review of prescribed credits.

This course will be offered at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, 2800 Opryland Drive, Nashville, Tennessee.

Lodging

Attendees are encouraged to stay at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center where block rooms and reduced conference rates are available. The cutoff date for receiving the reduced conference rate is September 17, 2007. This Resort is the location for all Symposium lectures and activities and is convenient. Registrants are responsible for making their own reservations.

The registration fee for the entire two and one-half day course is $495 if payment is received before October 17, 2007 or $595 at the door.  If you do not wish to attend the entire course, the registration fee is $250 per day.  The registration fee covers all program and educational material costs as well as expenses for refreshment breaks and lunches.  To register, you can complete the form included in this brochure or you can register on-line at www.cosehc.org.

Early registration is encouraged.  The room contains a limited number of seats.
