The Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension
Control (COSEHC) is a professional organization of physicians,
scientists, and health care providers working together
to reduce the incidence of high blood pressure and hypertension-related
cardiovascular disease outcomes (heart attacks, strokes,
renal disease and heart failure) in the southeastern region
of the United States. |

COSEHC invites the submission of abstracts describing basic science research, clinical science research, or public health studies. We strongly encourage medical residents, basic or clinical post-doctoral fellows, or investigators who hold junior faculty appointments.
The 15th annual Scientific Sessions of the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control (COSEHC) is a scientific and clinical education program that will provide a forum for presenting new advances in basic, clinical, and public health sciences related to hypertension, atherosclerosis, the metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and target organ injury. The program will afford participants ample opportunity to present both basic and clinically related work in the form of posters, oral presentations, invited lectures, and interactive workshops. This two and half-day program provides an educational experience for hypertensionologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, pediatricians and pediatric sub-specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, and investigators in the major fields of genetics, hypertension, heart, kidney, brain, and vascular physiology and pathology.

Hypertension and related cardiovascular disease continues to be a major healthcare problem for the population. Our understanding is that the awareness of the various risk factors associated with hypertension (obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes) is evolving at a rapid pace. The publication of many new clinical trials has facilitated this knowledge. The course content is based on new clinical and research aspects of patient care related to lipid management and the various guidelines associated with the management of hypertension. Armed with this knowledge, health care providers will be more effective at earlier detection and improved treatment of hypertension and its related conditions. COSEHC’s ongoing assessment of educational needs solicited as part of previous program evaluations has provided feedback suggesting the topics designed in this program.

There have been rapid developments of new concepts in pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical aspects and treatment of hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome and associated CVD and TOD. Publication of many new clinical trials have also occurred. This course will address the new clinical and research aspects in clinical patient care and practice skills, resulting in earlier detection and improved treatment of hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and renal disease. The course is designed to improve physicians’ knowledge and their clinical skills.
