Debra Simmons, R.N., M.S.Debra Simmons, R.N., M.S., is the Executive Director of COSEHC serving in this role since 2000. She has overall responsibility and accountability for the management and administration of the organization. Simmons grew up in the West (Salt Lake City, Utah), where she also attended the University of Utah to receive both her B.S in Nursing and M.S. degree in Administration. Early in her career she worked as a clinical nurse in both neonatal and pediatric ICUs, moving into hospital management positions after two years. Her experience includes hospital department director positions at children’s hospitals in Honolulu, Hawaii; Houston, Texas; and Lafayette, Louisiana. She served as the chief nursing officer at the Intermountain Health Care children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, for eight years prior to accepting a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Health Policy Fellowship in 1994. From 1994-1995, she worked on both healthcare and welfare reform legislation in the Washington D.C. Senate office of Robert J. Kerrey (Nebraska). In 1996, Ms. Simmons moved to North Carolina and joined the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as the Quality Management/Disease Management Director to develop, coordinate, and implement disease management initiatives for an integrated regional network of physician practices affiliated with Wake Forest. In her current role, she works closely with the COSEHC Board of Directors, COSEHC CV Centers of Excellence, and COSEHC staff to insure the goals and initiatives of the organization are met.
 
JaNae Joyner, Ph.D.JaNae Joyner, Ph.D. currently serves as Research Associate with COSEHC and has cross affiliation with the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity at Wake Forest University. Her main responsibilities include locating, developing, and submitting grant applications to various funding sources, institutional review board (IRB) documentation, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation and submission. She has served as primary investigator on awards from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation and the Wake Forest Ethics, Leadership, and Civic Responsibility Fund. Dr. Joyner has also assisted with the development of the novel health paradigm model patient inertia, and successfully conducted a cardiovascular prevention program in Forsyth County, North Carolina in 2008-2009. Dr. Joyner was born and raised in Mount Olive, North Carolina, and received her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Wake Forest University in 2007. She currently has 10 peer-reviewed published journal articles and over 25 abstracts accepted and developed into oral and poster presentations for regional, national, and international meetings.
 
Susie PollockSusie Pollock, Program Coordinator for COSEHC, coordinates all CME activities, facilitates all annual meetings including the Scientific Sessions, manages the COSEHC office, designs the COSEHC newsletter, and, more recently, collects onsite data. Now a dual American/British citizen, Susie was born in Australia to British parents; raised in Bath, England for seven years; Montreal, Canada for four; and attended high school and college in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her B.A. in English Literature from Brandeis University. Moving to California with her husband, she became a programmer for University Extension in Business and Veterinary Science courses at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Her following years of professional experience in Los Angeles included being Administrative Assistant to the director of a nursery school, and then Office Manager for a psychiatric medical office. Upon moving to North Carolina, Susie became Administrative Assistant to the newly appoint Public Defender for Forsyth County for four years before joining COSEHC.
 
Janie MarshallJanie Marshall, B.S. COSEHC IT Manager working with COSEHC’s rapidly expanding database processing. Born in Winston-Salem and raised in Pfafftown,
Mrs. Marshall received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from North Carolina State University. Her early years of employment were with the Hydra Computer Corporation in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the City of Winston-Salem Management Engineering Department. She continued her career with 25 years of service in the IT Department at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Ms. Marshall decided to join the COSEHC team as an exciting opportunity to continue expansion of her computer skills, and work in the healthcare field.
 
Alex SheekAlex Sheek, B.S. is the IT Director with COSEHC.  He is working with COSEHC’s rapidly expanding database analysis and processing. Born and raised in Clemmons, Alex received his Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Gardner Webb College. His first five years of employment after graduation were with a computer consulting firm in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He then founded a successful IT consulting business in Clemmons, North Carolina which he developed and worked with for the next twenty years. Alex decided to join the COSEHC team as an exciting opportunity to work in the healthcare field and continue to expand his programming and data analysis experience.
